As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Saviour, we are drawn to the image of the manger in Bethlehem, a small, simple place where God chose to enter the world not in splendour or wealth, but in humility and love. In this simple beginning, we are reminded that God comes close to us, especially in moments of fragility and need.
Our foundress Mary Aikenhead was drawn to this same spirit of humility. In choosing to serve those who were poor, sick or vulnerable, she reflected the way God comes to us with compassion and tenderness particularly in times of need. This Christmas invites us to pause and reflect on the mystery of Emmanuel: God with us, even in times of difficulty and often in the most ordinary and humbling places and circumstances of our lives.
For us, the work of charity becomes an expression of God’s love made visible. Each act of kindness, each gesture of care, is a way of welcoming Christ anew. We give thanks for all who share in this mission through prayer, generosity and support. May this holy season draw us back to simplicity, open our hearts to God’s grace, and lead us forward with hope into the year ahead.
From our community to yours, we wish you a blessed and peaceful Christmas.
