Religious Sisters of Charity Chapter 2025 News & Updates
The Religious Sisters of Charity’s 32nd General Chapter will take place from July 13th to August 8th, 2025, with the theme: “Living our future together in Faith, Hope & Courage”.
It is an important event, taking place every six years, which guides plans for the future of our Congregation.
What is a General Chapter?
For those who are not part of a religious congregation, there is an aura of mystery around a “General Chapter”.
Congregations have held Chapters for centuries but, as the needs of our world evolve, so does the process of General Chapters.
The entire General Chapter process is a time of communal discernment and decision making that emerges from community and personal prayer, contemplative listening, and conversation.
It allows our Congregation to review the past six years - where we are in our lives and our ministries and where we have made a difference. It also gives us time to discern our priorities for the coming six years.
The General Chapter is a special and important time for our Congregation and, this coming July and August, 45 of our Sisters from around the world will gather for our 32nd General Chapter.
Composition of a Chapter
The Chapter is made up of three parts.
Silent Retreat
The first part is an eight-day silent directed retreat for all the delegates, based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. There are several key factors in this retreat which empowers our Sisters: personal prayer, reflection, silence, daily meeting with a director and participation in the Eucharist.
Chapter of Affairs
The second part is the “Chapter of Affairs” where our Sisters come together to discern the needs of our time and evaluate the life of the Congregation in the light of these calls.
Chapter of Elections
The third part is the “Chapter of Elections”. As the Sisters consider what God is calling us to, we ask who among us the Holy Spirit might be inviting to lead the Congregation for the next six years. And so, the Chapter of Elections leads to identifying a new leadership team.
Sisters who cannot be present at the Chapter have committed to support the delegates through prayer and to implement the decisions of the Chapter. As women of the Church, rooted in the Gospel, we realise that we are part of an ever-widening circle of relationships. We count on the prayers of all Sisters, associates, partners in ministry, family, friends and benefactors both near and far. As we enter into this Spirit-led event we invite you to pray for our Chapter and our Congregation.
