Community Living

Our Response to the Call of God

Living in community is an integral part of our response to the call of God to follow Christ in chastity, poverty, obedience and service of the poor.

Our community is the whole body of the congregation, no matter how widely we are dispersed on mission. We also belong to local communities, which are particular expressions of the wider congregation.

Living as a Community

An important part of our community life is the spirit of welcome and hospitality. In living as a community, we do our best to:

  • Nurture right relationships by showing love, concern and forgiveness
  • Cultivate an attitude of belonging to the group by open, sincere communication, simplicity and courtesy of manner
  • Pray together and share the mystery of God's love
  • Exchange information and share insights
  • Share generously in the tasks involved in community living
Inter-Congregational Links

The Institute of the Religious Sisters of Charity was founded on the Ignatian tradition, drawing on the rule and spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola, who founded the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). The congregation also has links - spiritual and historical - with the following congregations around the world:

  • The Congregation of Jesus (York, England)
  • Missionary Sisters of St Columban (Co Wicklow, Ireland)
  • Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (Nigeria)

May our Lord give his divine blessing to our endeavours.
