Congratulations to Sr Mary Vaughan, Marian House Nursing Home, Glasnevin, for the nomination of Resident of the Year Award. The Nursing Home Ireland Care Awards 2025 was celebrated in the Mansion House on 6th November.
The Round Room was beautifully decorated for the occasion and each nominee and their invited guests were allotted tables according to the numbers attending. Sr Mary’s guests included Sr Geraldine Byrne, Provincial, and her team and members of her family. There was a total of 230 nominees to begin with and these were shortlisted to 33 with 12 finalists on the night.
Sonia Rivas Sanchez from Marian House Nursing Home, Clinical Nurse Manager, received an award in the General Awards Section. There was great excitement in the hall when her name was called as many of her colleagues from Marian House were present. The section Sr Mary was nominated for was the Resident Achievement Award. This award was presented to Jimmy Cox of Craddock Nursing Home, Kildare. He was an extremely popular recipient and the staff from the Nursing Home had made colourful posters to represent him.
It is worthwhile to state here the reason why Sr Mary was nominated. The citation includes the following:
“Sr Mary is an inspirational member of our care community, whose warmth, kindness and generosity of spirit enrich the lives of both residents and staff every day. Although she is a resident herself, she continually supports those around her with encouragement, reassurance and compassion. Her presence brings comfort and calm and her willingness to help, whenever needed, makes her an invaluable part of life at Marian House.
Sr Mary was nominated by her fellow residents, who describe the profound impact she has on them. They speak of her as a calming influence, someone who makes them feel safe, valued and cared for. Her thoughtfulness is expressed in both small gestures and greater acts of service. She prepares the Mass room whenever a priest visits, distributes Communion to her fellow residents when there is no in-house Mass and is always ready to listen, notice and respond to the needs of those around her”.
The citation concludes: “For her remarkable presence and lasting contribution to the well-being of others, we are proud to nominate her for the NHI Care Awards”.
And indeed, we in the Congregation are very proud of Sr Mary’s nomination in respect of her generous contribution to the well-being of those around her. We congratulate Sr Mary again on her achievement and wish her many blessings on her ministry to others.
