The Feast of St. Josephine Bakhita is celebrated annually on the 8th February, a day designated by Pope Francis as the International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking. Josephine Bakhita was kidnapped as a child and endured severe violence.
Among their many other ministries, the Religious Sisters of Charity, as the proprietors of Roma Girls’ Secondary School, continue to love & serve through the school in Lusaka, Zambia. The Sisters of Charity have been engaged in advocacy against Human Trafficking for over 15 years.
Roma Girls’ Secondary School is not just focused on academics but also on Human Trafficking awareness and Social Justice issues through mentoring the learners while the Alumni continue to love and serve across the World. The pupils are mentored and helped to become more aware of these vices by holding talks from various organizations such as TAKUZA, one of the many organizations helping to fight against Human Trafficking.
The pupils of Roma Girls’ Secondary School are involved in creating awareness about Human Trafficking. Every Friday the girls wear a T/Shirt with a message, “STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING”, as a way to spread this awareness.
Today the pupils commemorated this special day by having various initiatives such as poems, songs, media presentations and sketches to raise awareness for the over 40 million people currently in modern slavery. Before all these activities took place a Prayer Service was held remembering all the trafficked victims.
We are so grateful to all the Religious, lay, staff and partners, and to all who joined in making this day special for Roma Girls’ Secondary School.
Thank you all for the prayers, collaboration and generous support in the many various ministries of the Sisters of Charity.
