Graduation for the Second group of the Sister Led Youth Initiative Project (SLYIP) Skills training group was held on the 25th of May 2026.
The total number of the graduates was 37. They underwent training for six months in the following skills: Tailoring and Design, Knitting, Fabrication and Welding, Electrical Installation, Goat and Poultry Farming. The occasion started with Holy Mass celebrated by His Grace the Rt. Rev. Peter Musikuwa the Bishop of Chikwawa diocese.
After Mass the other activities followed outside at the venue prepared for the day by the Parish SLYIP Support Committee and students. Families of the students, their instructors and many people, including local chiefs and the Diocesan Education Officer came to witness the occasion.
In his guest of honour speech to the graduating students, the bishop urged them to value the skills they have gained and put them to good use so as to contribute meaningfully to the lives of their families and the larger society. He encouraged them to take good care of the machines and other tools they are given for the work. With the skills they have learned, they can make a positive contribution and make a difference in their families and society. Though they are like a ‘drop in the ocean’, since there is so much youth unemployment, he said this could lead to developing their area and, eventually, to a reduction in the numbers of those leaving their homes in search of ‘green pastures elsewhere.’
The students received their certificates amid great jubilation and rejoicing. The day ended with a prayer and best wishes for the graduating students.
