An appreciation of Sr Margaret Dolores Murray
Poem read at Sr. Margaret Dolores’ funeral by her niece Máire Oakes
SR. MARGARET DOLORES
(Aunty Dolores)
She came of natures stock
This lady of the lamp
A modern day nightingale supreme
She ruled her roost with iron and compassion.
A life of selfless love
In Gods own name
Dolores gave without exception,
In far flung regions of this world
And nearer home,
She served and saved and worked with tireless drive
And left behind her mark
To flourish.
Dolores loved her own
With passion… the passion of a matriarch
Each one unique and precious in her eyes… loved…
Each new baby heralded and welcomed
Each family linked with stories
Told and cherished and shared
of funny times of treasured times
and sometimes sadness too…
Her final days were taken up
With photos on the wall
Of butterflies
And birds
And golden fishes swimming in the pond
While doggie drinks her fill from their surrounds,
Confounds imagination,
The chocolate ducks look on
As God presents himself in nature loved, experienced by her
A living prayer, a witness to His gift.
We are better for her being here
The richer for her going
As she leaves behind her legacy of love,
Of simple truth and Faith in God.
We are duty bound to cherish and pass on.
