Anne O’Halloran, daughter of James and Brigid O’Halloran was born in Waterford on 4th August 1942. She was the eldest of nine children, five boys and four girls. Following a year in the Domestic Science College in Clonmel, Anne entered the Religious Sisters of Charity in October 1960. She was received as a novice in 1961 and was given the name Sr. Mary Timothy. Anne made her First Profession in April 1963 and her Final Profession in April 1966.
Sr. Anne’s first assignment was to Basildon in England where she spent three happy years visiting the Parishioners and those in need. She was very gifted with her hands and did a number of Craft Courses to improve her skills. From April 1966 to September 1968 Anne spent time in Milltown and Bray helping in the Communities before being missioned to Mountjoy Street for further studies. Following her studies she was missioned to Merrion School for the Blind on 2nd November 1969. The Annals of Merrion Community tell us that Anne was missioned to Merrion to start an Occupational Centre for the adult blind. She began with a craft class and then set up an industrial unit and classes for Braille and typing. She was the only Sister Social Welfare Officer for the blind in Ireland at that time.
In May 1977 Anne was assigned to missionary work in Nakambala in Zambia where she taught homecrafts to school leavers, most of whom used these skills for future employment. Anne remained in Nakambala until May 1979 when she returned to Ireland. She was accepted as a student nurse in St. Vincent’s Hospital in September 1979 and following her qualification as a General Nurse she began paediatric training in Temple Street in August 1983. Following her training she was missioned to Cappagh Hospital as a Ward Sister in February 1985 and then to Harold’s Cross in January 1990. In Our Lady’s Hospice she was drawn to the use of Complementary Therapies. From January 1991 she practised Complementary Therapy in the Palliative Care section and helped many cancer patients to feel relaxed and at peace. In January 1998 she was missioned to Maranatha Community and continued to use her gift for Reflexology in Our Lady’s Hospice.
After seventeen years ministering in Our Lady’s Hospice Anne moved to Crumlin in 2007 to begin a sabbatical in Colorado. She returned to Crumlin in September 2008 and lived there until the house closed in September 2013. When Crumlin closed she moved to St. Joseph’s Apartment, Merrion.
Anne often recalled how she enjoyed memorable celebrations with her family, especially at the time of her Silver and Golden Jubilees and other family occasions. She loved shopping and took great delight in going out with family or friends to enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee. When her health began to fail she suffered two strokes. Her inability to communicate and express herself clearly caused her great stress and frustration but her trust in God and her faithfulness to prayer gave her courage and determination to keep going. On 2nd January 2020 she retired to Nazareth House Nursing Home where her love for the Nazareth Sisters and the understanding of the Staff helped her to gradually accept that she finally needed care.
Anne had bad fall in Nazareth House and broke her femur. She was admitted to Beaumont Hospital on 24th June 2026. During surgery the following morning she suffered a very severe stroke. She died peacefully early on the morning of Saturday 27th June 2026.
Anne’s funeral Mass was celebrated in Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount. She was buried in the community cemetery in Donnybrook.
May she rest now, safe in the Presence of God, in a place of peace and joy.
