Bernadette, daughter of James Moran and Norah Hynes was born in Taramuid, Clarinbridge, Co. Galway, Ireland, on 9th February, 1942. She was the second youngest of 11 children.
She entered the Religious Sisters of Charity on 5th February, 1962. She was received into the Novitiate in August 1962, receiving the Religious name, Sister Marie Margaret Moran. She made her First Profession on 26th August 1964.
After her first Profession she went to Langley, Buckinghamshire, England in September 1964 until July 1965 after which she was missioned to California.
Sr. Bernadette ministered to and served God’s people in Education as an Elementary School teacher in various parish schools until 1999 when she went to St. Columban’s Parish and began to use her gifts and energies in the Faith Formation of Adults.
Beginning in Our Lady of Fatima, in San Clemente in September 1965 she taught in the elementary school until June 1967 and returned there for another three years from September 1973 until June 1976.
St. Brigid of Sweden, Van Nuys became her home from September 1968 until June 1969 when she was missioned to St. Cornelius, Long Beach.
In September 1972 she went to Garden Grove for a year and returned to the school in Our Lady of Fatima, San Clemente from September 1973 until June 1976.
She ministered in St. Hedwig’s school in Los Alamitos from September 1976 until 1998 with the exception of the year in Garden Grove 1972-1973.
Since 1999 Sr. Bernadette ministered in Adult Faith Formation in St. Columban’s parish, Garden Grove, bringing new life to those she met in the various Faith development programs, conferences, bible study groups and anti-trafficking committee.
She retired from formal ministry in June 2018 and hoped to volunteer in some capacity. While her health deteriorated rapidly she continued to trust in Divine Providence for the future of the mission. She moved to Regina Residence in Orange in November where she was cared for with love and gentleness. Sr. Bernadette endeared herself to the staff and remained a peaceful presence in every stage of her illness until her death on 21st December 2018.
