On February 27th our sisters in California attended a Symposium on Human Trafficking with a specific focus: ‘The Price We Pay’. Sr. Kathleen Bryant RSC was part of the planning committee – Partners for Global Justice. The keynote speaker was the internationally known Benjamin Skinner who has written ‘A Crime So Monstrous’ as well as a recent article in ‘Time Magazine’ on trafficking and the upcoming World Cup in South Africa.
Other speakers took topics related to the cost of human trafficking to the Millennial Development Goals, the impact on families, children, the environment, economic causes and effects, the moral fabric of society. Some of our RSC Associates and colleagues attended along with the sisters (see photograph below).
On March 24th, Sr. Bernadette Moran RSC and her Human Trafficking Team, put on an evening with a guest speaker, Maria Suarez, who told her story of being trafficked. It was a very educational as well as emotionally moving evening.
