Protecting our common home has become an urgent need as we continue to witness the effects of climate change in different parts of the world ranging from constant droughts, fires, flooding, overheating, changing weather patterns etc. This has an effect on each one of us especially the poor. Our foundress Mary Aikenhead left us a legacy of listening to the needs of our time and responding to them in the best way we can. In the spirit of our Charism, we committed to join the Catholic World to respond to Pope’s Francis’ appeal to participate in a seven-year journey towards sustainability and integral ecology. Using the Seven Goals of Laudato Si, the different areas of the Congregation make plans to incorporate these goals in their everyday lives e.g. washing at a lower temperature, using soap and detergents that do not harm the environment, recycling etc. Many “small actions” can have “big effects.” The different plans from each area have been put together for Year Two of the Laudato Si Action Platform plan.
