Congratulations to Sr Margaret Deegan, who was presented with the above award on 6th November in City West Hotel, Dublin. This award is open to all ancillary workers employed in an NHI registered nursing home. The award is established to celebrate the work that ancillary workers do, in ensuring that the physical and psychosocial environment of the nursing home is of a high quality and enhances the well-being of residents, teams and visitors. This award is open to staff in various different categories i.e. office, domestic, transport, maintenance, chaplain etc.
Candidates will be required to demonstrate how their work as an ancillary worker (over and above what would normally be expected of the role) contributes to creating an excellent physical/ psycho-social environment and how the work has a demonstrable benefit in contributing to a culture of person-centredness in the nursing home.
Sr Margaret Deegan works as a voluntary Chaplain in TLC (Tender Loving Care Nursing Home), Citywest, Co Dublin. Margaret has worked there for several years and was nominated by the staff for the award, for her care, sensitivity, and loving attention to the residents in the Nursing Home with special emphasis on accompanying patients towards the End of Life.
The staff had no doubt that Margaret would win the prize but there was no certainty of that until her name was announced. She received a standing ovation as she walked to the podium to say her few words and receive her prize. It was a proud moment for Sr Margaret, for the staff of the Nursing Home and for ourselves as a Congregation.
Congratulations to Sr Margaret for her wonderful ministry to the sick and dying.
