On 1st September 2014, Mater Christi Secondary School and Patrician College Finglas, amalgamated under the name of NEW CROSS COLLEGE. The school is a Catholic Co-Educational Voluntary Secondary School and is under the Co-Trusteeship of the Religious Sisters of Charity and Le Cheile Schools Trust. It is located in the Mater Christi school building.
The official opening of the school by the Minister for Education & Skills Jan O’Sullivan T D, took place on Wednesday 23rd September 2015. It was a sunny Autumn day and as all the necessary renovations in the building had been completed, the school looked bright, vibrant and welcoming. The ceremony began in the front hall, where a plaque was unveiled by the Minister, and a prayer of blessing read by the school chaplain – Fr Eamonn Cahill.
Trustees, students, teachers, members of the Board of Management, a representative group of parents and invited guests gathered in the hall for the official ceremony. Deputy Principal Patricia MacManus read the opening prayer in which we prayed God’s blessing on the school and on all who promote education in the community The commitment and dedication of both schools to the education of pupils in the wider Finglas area since 1967, was acknowledged in speeches by Eilis Humphreys, CEO Le Cheile Schools Trust, Sr Mary Kernan representing the Religious Sisters of Charity and Pat Carolan, Principal.
Tribute was paid to all who made the amalgamation possible – the two Boards of Management, staffs, pupils, parents of both schools, Tommy Lannigan, Facilitator of the Steering Committee and to the great team work involved in reaching this milestone. Minister Jan O’Sullivan congratulated everyone involved in the process and wished the school every success in the future.
Following the ceremony, the guests were invited to tour the school and to see the great facilities provided for the pupils. This was followed by refreshments in the hall, which were enjoyed by all.
