On Sunday, 28th July we elected our new Congregational Leader. Prayer, reflection and consultation were very much part of our election process and experience. Following Mass during which we asked the Holy Spirit to inspire us and be with us in a special way we entered into a “holy, listening silence”. There was exposition of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day and sisters spent time in silent prayer. The day was also characterized by one on one conversations identifying the qualities of a congregational leader that we saw in others.
Peace and consolation were part of our experience together with the knowledge that God was and is always with us.
At 4.00 p.m. all the delegates assembled in the Chapter Room for the election. We prayed as a body. We elected our new Congregational Leader – Sr. Patricia Lenihan. The sisters danced for joy, drummed and sang hymns of thanksgiving – “What the Lord has done for us…..”.
A celebration meal followed when all had time to enjoy and celebrate together. The celebration cake was baked and decorated by Sr. Mary Christian.
