9 September 2015 – The Religious Sisters of Charity welcome the publication today of the Report by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI) and we accept its findings.
We are very sorry for the children who were abused while in our care and we encourage anyone with a complaint relating to our care, to get in touch with us. We are glad to provide our former pupils with support and pastoral care.
As soon as the NBSCCCI publishes its revised guidelines, we will redraft our child guidance policies and procedures to include prevention measures, clear policies and procedures; reflecting the new NBSCCCI guidelines. We will provide training for all our Sisters on our revised policy.
We will also join the NCSCCCI’s National Case Management Reference Group to get advice on managing any future allegations of abuse that we may receive.
There are 213 members in our Congregation in Ireland. While the median age of the Sisters is 76, a large number of us are still actively working with adults and children who need our help.
