Walking along the beach in Australia, two Religious Sisters of Charity brainstormed for a way to connect the Mary Aikenhead family across cultures and countries, including both vowed members and those associated with our charism: lay colleagues, associates, friends of the Congregation.
At a vocation seminar in Chicago, they saw a Facebook page for Catherine McAuley and how effective it was in linking people together. And so the Mary Aikenhead Facebook page was born. The goal of the page is to:
- connect and communicate using technology seeing that it the new form of social networking
- foster an interest in current efforts to keep the charism alive in the world
- educate
- network
- facilitate relationships online with people who share a common interest in Mary Aikenhead, her charism and spirituality
- announce events and RSC celebrations
How it works:
The Profile is that of Mary Aikenhead, a little of her history and some photos. The profile is a social resume showing different slices of her life (this is a work in progress!)
The sayings of Mary Aikenhead are posted for each day by an RSC associate
“Friends” are able to post news items, updates, photos and events
