Having heard of the consciousness awareness activities planned in California for 11th January, 2011 against Human Trafficking the sisters in Venezuela decided to do something in their area. Some of the community leaders and catechists met and prepared to launch the campaign on 11th by speaking to the members of the Bible Group.
With their ideas and suggestions discussed they decided that Saturday 15th would be the date to share information with those in the catechetical programme in the morning and with the youth group in the afternoon.
They prepared material for the church notice board for Sunday with facts and data regarding trafficking in the world in general and suggestions for action at a more local level. They made about 150 blue hearts from foami. As people arrived for Mass they greeted them at the gate and spoke to them about the theme and each one received a pin to be worn throughout this month. People were really interested and asked questions and said they would share with their family and friends what the blue heart means. The following Sunday the leaders had information leaflets ready to distribute and they plan to have a prayer service at the end of the month – hopefully it is the beginning of heightening awareness in Catia-la-Mar.
