We are deeply saddened and distressed by the abduction of students and staff from St Mary’s Catholic Schools in Papiri, Nigeria, run by the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles. The Religious Sisters of Charity hold the entire community in our prayers. Our hearts are with the families anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones, with the Sisters and Church leaders offering support, and with the young people and staff whose wellbeing is of deep concern.
We invite everyone to join us in prayer for the safe return of every child and staff member, for strength and comfort for their families, for an end to violence, and for wisdom and resolve for all who are working toward a just and peaceful resolution. May God’s comforting presence sustain all who wait and may every child and staff member return home safely.
