Like most Americans, our sisters in California celebrated the traditional feast of Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26th with turkey, pumpkin pies, squashes and endless dishes shared with family and friends.
However, in these times of global recession it is wonderful to see some Americans celebrating Thanksgiving by feeding those who are truly hungry.
Sr. Mary Beausang is part of Christian Care, San Pedro, which distributed 250 turkeys to needy families! Daily they give out lunches and weekly bags of groceries as well as clothing. Mary said that she feels privileged to be a part, if only a small part, of the Mary Star of the Sea Christian Care Program.
In many of our parishes here similar dinners were put on for the homeless and needy families as well as at Covenant House where Sr. Margaret Farrell helped with a sit down Thanksgiving dinner offered to people a few days before the holiday.
