On 11th and 12th March 2023 Cyclone Freddy hit Southern Malawi and left a trail of destruction in its wake. In Konzalendo, where our sisters live, many people were affected although loss of life came to only 4, whereas in total the death total to date numbers more than 300. As Divine Providence would have it our sisters were out of the country attending a Regional Meeting in Lusaka when the cyclone hit the area. The roads between Blantyre and Konzalendo were badly damaged and a section of one of the bridges they must cross to reach their house was washed away, preventing them from returning. Thankfully a temporary arrangement has been made until the bridge can be properly repaired and they will return on Wednesday 23rd.
News coming from the district has indicated that more than 6000 persons are in need of immediate assistance, including food, temporary shelters, blankets, cleaning supplies, pails and cooking utensils.
