Sr. Felistus Nyirongo RSC was one of the ‘First Fruits’ of Mulungushi University. Here she explains what it means to her and why it is so special…
“It was a sunny day, 19th October at Mulungushi Rock of Authority graduation square when we lined up to finish what was begun three years ago! It was a joyous day when I graduated as a Bachelor of Social Work. I felt fulfilled and all the long hours of research, assignments, tests, exams were all swallowed in the joy of receiving a degree! I was accompanied by Sisters Mary Roche and Yolantha Mwiila and two of my family members. I felt ready and empowered for mission so as to put into practice what I have been learning in the service of the sick poor of Nakambala Home Based Care and in the Parish. I am so grateful to everybody who supported me to reach this far!
The graduation ceremony commenced at 09:00hrs and ended at 12:00hrs. Each School was differentiated by colours. Our gowns followed Mulungushi University colours which are blue, black, maroon/red and white. We were 160 graduands in two schools; School of Agriculture and Natural Resources included but not limited to: Bachelor of Land and Water Resources Management, Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Entrepreneurship. School of Social Sciences included among others, Bachelor of Human Resource Management and Bachelor of Social Work. This graduation was historical in the sense that it was the 4th Graduation Ceremony ever since Mulungushi was declared Zambia’s third Public University in 2008 apart from The University of Zambia in Lusaka and The Copperbelt University in Kitwe. We were special in that we are the First Degree graduants from Mulungushi University! The day was filled with joy and laughter. 19th October, 2012 will remain a special day for me!”
