St Margaret of Scotland Hospice Consultant, Professor John Welsh, was formally received into the Church on this very special Holy Day. In a moving and inclusive Mass on the Feast of the Ascension, Canon Gerard Tartaglia, supported by Hospice Chaplain Frank Wilson, welcomed Professor John to the Church.

In celebration of the 2nd anniversary of Laudato Si’, the Laudato Si’ Pledge campaign was launched during a large event in Manila on June 17th. The goal is to get 1 million Catholics to sign the pledge and take action for our common home. Leading the way for the Religious Sisters of Charity is Sr Magdalen Bluett who signed the Pledge online whilst sitting in her garden recently.
I would like to briefly introduce myself, my name is Nicola Kelly and I began working as the Archivist for the Religious Sisters of Charity, Sandymount, Dublin in May 2017. I am currently familiarising myself with the rare treasures buried within the archives confines, each letter, photograph, diary entry etc. forms an integral part of the Congregation’s rich tapestry.
Just over a year ago I was asked by the Editor of the Messenger magazine to write a booklet on issues that were relevant for people in their later years. The booklet was to be suitable for a general, not an academic, audience. In April of this year ‘Challenges in Later Life’ was published by Messenger Publications, so how did it evolve?
On Saturday the 24th June, the Union of Catholic Mothers (UCM) in the parish of St John the Baptist, Hackney, celebrated their 80th Anniversary. The Sisters in St Joseph’s Convent were invited to join them, as it was in the convent that their meetings began 80 years ago.
Congratulations to Sr Maria Kenny and to the parishioners of Ringsend Parish in Dublin for a wonderful celebration on Sunday, 25th June 2017.
St Patrick’s Parish in Ringsend and Irishtown organised a wonderful celebration for Sr Maria’s Golden Jubilee. The chief celebrant was Bishop Raymond Field, Auxiliary Bishop in Dublin and Sr Maria was joined by her family, friends and sisters of the Congregation.
Having given 173 years of service to the people of Clarinbridge, near Galway in the West of Ireland, the Sisters of Charity will soon be bidding a final farewell to the people who have welcomed them for almost two centuries into their homes and hearts.
