Plastic Free July - Say No To Single Use Plastic

2019 plastic july thumbIn her reflection on the gospel for the first Sunday of July, Veronica Lawson RSM writes “the present ecological crisis calls us to new ways of being neighbour. If we are to be neighbour in our times we need to think cosmologically as well as globally and to act locally”.

Plastic has become so much part of our lives. We need a growing commitment to be constantly aware of this as we stop, think and make choices, saying NO to single use plastic. Plastic takes 400 years to decompose. It ends up in our rivers and oceans and harms marine life. It also ends up in the food chain. The World Wildlife Fund recently stated that the average person is likely to ingest five grams of plastic every week through food and drink alone.
Plastic Free July is a time to begin to refuse single use plastic and work towards a plastic free way of living.
